While times like these can be tough for all, members of the media have chosen to put their eggs in a basket against the hope that President Trump has in a potential cure for the Coronavirus. Yesterday, at his press conference, he tried to offer the country hope in the form of a drug that was used to cure Malaria in combination with an antibiotic. This morning, he tweeted that they “have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine.“
….be put in use IMMEDIATELY. PEOPLE ARE DYING, MOVE FAST, and GOD BLESS EVERYONE! @US_FDA @SteveFDA @CDCgov @DHSgov

Prior to that press conference, CNN ran an article attempting to downplay the possibility that the drug would work. The headline for that article, “Trump peddles unsubstantiated hope in dark times.” One could maybe excuse writer Stephen Collinson as often the author of a piece doesn’t write the headlines, but the first line of the article goes even further, “To fight the coronavirus, President Donald Trump is adopting the audacity of false hope.”
.@CNN is accusing @POTUS of peddling false hope. The truth is, America does need hope! I thank God that we have a Commander in Chief who knows how to take charge and stand w/hope in front of clouds of despair looming on the horizon—thank you Pres. Trump! https://t.co/buGbExydEb

Following the press conference and on her evening show, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow took to the airwaves to accuse the president of “lying like he has been every day on stuff this important.” She then went further by asking her fellow members of the media, “we should, all of us, stop broadcasting it.” And in a quote that some could argue peddled fear, “Honestly, it’s going to cost lives.”

The Hill has picked up on Maddow’s cue, offering an opinion article this morning from contributor Maria Cardona with the headline, “Trump needs to stop the daily press briefings.” The first line of the article called the press conference “downright frightening.” Further down, she referred to them as, “three ring circuses with Trump as the deranged ring master.”

If standing strong and facing the nation every day in the face of fear and hopelessness is wrong, then I don’t know what is right any more. President Trump has tried to do the best he can in the face of obstruction in the courts and Democrats in Congress clamoring for impeachment.
