After Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) forced a vote last week regarding the constitutionality of the impeachment trial against former President Trump, only 5 Republican senators voted to keep the trial going.
Democrats asked Trump to testify under oath for his Senate impeachment trial by sending a letter, but a Trump adviser said the former president won’t testify and shot down that attempt.
Trump adviser Jason Miller dismissed the trial as “an unconstitutional proceeding” and said the former president would not testify and separately, Trump’s lawyers denounced the request as a “public relations stunt.”
House Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) appeared this morning on Newsmax and summed up his confidence that the trial will end with an acquittal of Trump.
Sharing a clip of the interview, Jordan said, “The president’s going to win this case. He’s going to be acquitted with a strong vote because the Constitution’s on his side, the due process arguments are on his side, and the facts are on his side.”
Echoing the vote that was taken last week, Jordan wondered, “How can you remove a president from office who has already left?”
Referencing the fact that Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) is preside over the proceedings instead of Chief Justice John Roberts, Jordan pointed out, “The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court already knows, he’s not even going to preside.”
“Due process, our colleague Matt Gaetz said it best, this is impeachment by reflex, a two hour debate. This makes the Adam Schiff impeachment, which we know how much that suffered from a lack of due process, it makes that debate look so much better,” Jordan added.
Jordan concluded the clip by suggesting, “We should have never had this in the first place.”
