Earlier today, we reported that U.S. House Rep Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is the latest Democratic elected official to file a lawsuit against former President Trump, alleging in federal court that he and others are “responsible for the injury and destruction” of the Jan. 6 siege on the U.S. Capitol.
The co-defendants in the lawsuit are Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and Swalwell’s colleague, U.S. House Rep Mo Brooks (R-AL).
Brooks came out swinging against Swalwell’s accusations earlier today in a tweet.
“.@ericswalwell lawsuit against Mo Brooks, @DonaldJTrumpJr & President Trump is a meritless ploy by a man who betrayed his country by bedding a Communist Chinese spy while serving on Intelligence Committee that hears & guards America’s most classified national security secrets,” Brooks said.

AL.com reported that Brooks called Swalwell a “socialist” and insisted, “I make no apologies whatsoever for fighting for accurate and honest elections.”
“In sum, I wear Communist-sympathizer Swalwell’s scurrilous and malicious lawsuit like a badge of courage. Under no circumstances will Swalwell, or any other Socialist, stop me from fighting for America,” Brooks added.
From Al.com:
Brooks, a Republican from Huntsville, was among the speakers at a pro-Trump rally on Jan. 6 that took place as Congress was readying to certify the election results showing Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden. During the impassioned speech, Brooks said it was “the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass.”
He later defended himself against claims he incited violence.
“The radical left’s absurd claim that I called for violence is pure bunk,” Brooks said. “I called for exercise of freedom of protest at the Capitol and for fighting for our cause at the ballot box in the 2022 and 2024.”
