The White House today covered for Joe Biden after he committed a gaffe during a speech at the Commissioning Commemoration Ceremony of the USS Delaware.
In a clip that was shared by Breaking 911 in a tweet, Biden can be seen as having said, “I’m deeply proud of the work she’s doing as first lady with Joining Forces initiative she started with Michelle Obama when she was Vice President and now carries on.”
The official transcript makes it clear that Joe Biden was referring to his wife Jill Biden during the clip, although the transcript was modified by crossing out “she” and replacing it with “[I]” to show that he was supposed to be referring to himself when he referenced who “was Vice President.”
And I want you to know that I’ve had an incredible partner. Jill has watched over the progress of the USS Delaware for years.
The daughter of a Navy signalman during World War Two, the mother of a member of the Delaware National Guard, the grandmother of children who experienced having their father deployed away from home for a year at a time. She always holds our military and their families in her heart. And that is not hyperbole; that’s real.
And I’m deeply proud of the work she is doing as First Lady with Joining Forces initiative she started with Michelle Obama when she [I] was Vice President and now carries on.

Biden recently had to run damage control after Biden committed a series of gaffes while he was meeting with NATO allies.
As we previously reported:
Biden said about Putin at the end of his speech in Warsaw, Poland today, “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.”
A White House official clarified the statement following the speech and said that comment was referring to Putin exercising power outside of Russia.
In an email, the official explained, “The president’s point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region. He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change.”
When Fox News’ Peter Doocy pressed Biden later, he declared that he wasn’t “walking anything back” and that he was expressing “moral outrage.”
