Former president Barack Obama celebrated Kamala Harris being picked by Joe Biden today with a tweet and statement, calling her “more than prepared for the job.” He also claimed that “this is a good day for our country.”
I’ve known Senator @KamalaHarris for a long time. She is more than prepared for the job. She’s spent her career defending our Constitution and fighting for folks who need a fair shake. This is a good day for our country. Now let’s go win this thing. pic.twitter.com/duJhFhWp6g

From CBS News:
“Choosing a vice president is the first important decision a president makes. When you’re in the Oval Office, weighing the toughest issues, and the choice you make will affect the lives and livelihoods of the entire country — you need someone with you who’s got the judgment and the character to make the right call,” Obama said in a statement.
Obama, who served in the White House with Biden for two terms, said that Biden choosing Harris underscores “his own judgment and character” — attributes that are “requirements of the job” of president.
In the past, Harris has been referred to as the “female Obama.” Obama once called her “the best looking attorney general in the country,” but then apologized after some called the remark sexist. He said in the tweet that he has known her “for a long time.”
Harris dropped out of the presidential race before the first vote was cast and just weeks before the deadline for candidates to withdraw from the primary ballot in Harris’ home state of California.
A poor finish in her home state would have been an embarrassment that an adviser believed could have longer lasting political consequences. She blamed a lack of finances for that decision.
“I’m not a billionaire. I can’t fund my own campaign. And as the campaign has gone on, it’s become harder and harder to raise the money we need to compete,” Harris said at the time.
