GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Ca.) tweeted out a clip of himself earlier commenting on the situation with Democratic House Rep. Eric Swalwell (Ca.) who remains on the Intel Committee.
McCarthy said that he believes “There are 200 other Democrats who would be better to be on the Intel Committee than Eric Swalwell.”
“The House Intelligence Committee is a special committee. The members on it have access to many of America’s top national security secrets,” McCarthy added in the tweet.

McCarthy also shared a clip from when he appeared on Fox News’ “The Story” with Martha MacCallum yesterday and he said that “Speaker Pelosi and I were briefed together by the FBI for more than an hour about Eric Swalwell’s ties to a reported-Chinese spy.”
“Anyone who heard what we both heard should never allow him to continue serving on the Intel Committee,” McCarthy added. Pelosi did not speak with reporters following the briefing.

According to NPR, McCarthy said the briefing “only raised more questions. The one thing that was fundamentally answered: he should not be on Intel” and he called China “an adversary in many shapes and many forms.”
During the interview with MacCallum, McCarthy added, “”If you read the press, it was the FBI that went to him … not he going to them … I would assume it would be pretty serious if the FBI came to you [and said] that they knew this person was a spy for another country.”
Swalwell attempted to play off the controversy with a recent tweet where he shared a picture himself with his children who were writing “Notes to Santa…”
“The only leverage I have,” Swalwell claimed in the tweet.
