ABC’s George Stephanopoulos admitted the last thing the left-leaning media wants to admit on “This Week”, but obviously without former President Trump in office, they appear to be shaping the narrative differently.
In an interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), there appears to be some initial return to sanity as there is an acknowledgment of the U.S./Mexico border crisis. Illegal immigration has risen immensely since Joe Biden took office and now it is even being reported that FEMA may have to get involved. Meanwhile, the blame game begins.
“Let’s talk about the situation at the border” Stephanopoulos begins. “We’ve seen a huge surge in migrants crossing the border since January, the number of children in custody higher than it was during its 2019 peak during the Trump administration.”
He continues: “Your colleague Veronica Escobar of Texas called the conditions there unacceptable, she was there on Friday. Is she right? What more must be done?” At this point, after initially not understanding Escobar’s name as spoken by Stephanopoulos, Pelosi finally responded.
“The facts are these, there are more children, about 600-700 more children, unaccompanied children, coming over the border. This is a humanitarian challenge to all of us. What the administration has inherited is a broken system at the border and they are working to correct that in the children’s interest.”
She goes on to say “This again is a transition from what was wrong before, to what is right”. She then goes on to blame climate change on mass immigration from central American nations into the U.S. Shockingly, she says “we have to deal with it at the border”, but without being more specific, and then immediately pivots to talking about wanting to accommodate people with legitimate claims to asylum. Although former President Trump isn’t on Twitter anymore, we expect he will put out some sort of response to this if he hasn’t already, condeming Pelosi putting blame on him. Donald Trump was in the process of building an effective and comprehensive border wall, and President Biden has halted the building of that wall, sending an unwritten message to desperate immigrants that perhaps now is the time to come the U.S., under Democrat leadership.
Time will tell if the wall ever gets completed, if the Democrats ever give Trump any credit for what he was doing trying to fix the immigration crisis, or if this game of bob and weave continues. Meanwhile, American citizens coming home from abroad still have to pass a test for Covid-19.
