Anti-Trump comedian Rosie O’Donnell got herself in hot water after assuming Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas was related to Author Deepak Chopra.
The situation occurred while she was dining at Nobu, an upscale sushi restaurant in Malibu, with her son, his girlfriend, and fellow comedian Fran Drescher, who she all felt that she humiliated.
O’Donnell posted a TikTok video about what she later called an “awkward” encounter with Chopra Jonas and her husband, singer-actor Nick Jonas after she introduced herself to the celebrity couple, who were seated next to the comic’s party.
In the video, O’Donnell appealed to her followers to tell her that she was not the only one who may have thought that while apologizing to the celebrity couple.
O’Donnell additionally got herself in more trouble because she didn’t refer to Chopra Jonas by her first name in the video, after making a mistake of that magnitude.
In a follow-up video, after backlash, O’Donnell made sure to say Chopra Jonas’s first name and apologize for the last video.
O’Donnell also shared the videos to Instagram where she received support from other celebrities and many responded by saying they didn’t realize the two weren’t related either.
Chopra Jonas hasn’t responded to the controversy but she did recently post to her Instagram story celebrating the settlement of a lawsuit between American women soccer players like activist Megan Rapinoe and the U.S. Soccer Federation.
While it all may blow over for O’Donnell, one could only imagine the outrage that would ensue if a conservative celebrity were to make such a mix-up.
