In a fiery speech on the Congressional floor yesterday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy laid into the Democrats for their refusal to pass the PPP loan extension. He said that “To those 4.4 million Americans that were laid off this week, Congress owes you an apology.”

He highlighted how the program had been successful before. He had hoped that “maybe we could overcome politics for a moment.” He thought that they could “say yes on a unanimous consent.”
The White House tweeted out earlier that the program “should never have run out of money.” They said there “was no excuse for Democrats to stall for partisan pork.”

McCarthy shared an ad in honor of Shakespeare’s birthday, which is most commonly thought to be April 23rd, saying, “The lady doth protest too much.” The ad takes clips of Pelosi bragging about holding up the bill, while accusing the Republicans of delaying.
