Actress Patricia Heaton set off a firestorm yesterday on Twitter when she called out Disney for “castrating” Buzz Lightyear by not casting Tim Allen as the character in the new “Lightyear” movie.
Heaton said in a tweet, “Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns.”
“Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?” Heaton wondered.
One Twitter user responded, “Do people not pay attention? Tim Allen’s Buzz is the toy based off of a person. Chris Evan’s Buzz is the the real person that inspired the toy. The movie is about Buzz Lightyear the Person, not Andy’s toy.”
After responses like that one, Heaton doubled down in a quote tweet of her original tweet.
“Ok so the current Buzz Lightyear movie is an origin story – but the reason the character became so beloved is because of what@ofctimallen created,” Heaton explained.
Heaton then asked, “Why remove the one element that makes us want to see it?#stupidHollywooddecisions“

Fox News’ Janice Dean also offered a similar opinion in a tweet where she declared, “Watching the trailer for #Lightyear without the voice of @ofctimallen is complete insanity and beyond.”
Dean wasn’t done however, as she continued, “I tried looking up why filmmakers didn’t use him and the quote from @AngusMacLane was: ‘Tim’s version of Buzz is a little goofier and is a little dumber.’ And so I will never watch this movie.”
“I’ll bet they’d never do that to @tomhanks,” Dean quipped.
