After Fox News hosts and others supportive groups advocated on behalf of a New York City Bodega worker who fatally stabbed an attacker in the store as shown by video, charges have been dropped.
Liberal DA Alvin Bragg had been dragging his feet after outcry from the general public continued. Many feel the left does not want to be tough on crime and doesn’t like supporting people who defend themselves. This is not true for everyone but it is what people feel the narrative is sometimes.
In this case the narrative may have affected a real world situation. We may never know what the outcome would have been if not for public outcry.
Fox News reported in part:
Jennifer Sigall, assistant district attorney under Bragg, issued a motion Tuesday to dismiss the second-degree murder charge against Alba and provided a copy to his attorney, Michelle Villasenor-Grant.
“Following an investigation, the People have determined that we cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant was not justified in his use of deadly physical force. As such, the People will not be presenting the case to a Grand Jury and for the reasons provided in the attached memorandum, hereby move to dismiss the complaint,” Bragg’s office wrote in court documents obtained by Fox News.
The Fox News story details why the Bodega worker did what he did. It seems the case was a little more complicated than a normal ”stick em up” robbery.
Many news pundits feel Bragg made a mistake and some think his initial decision was political.
It will be interesting to hear various different opinions and reactions from left and right leaning news pundits.
