Andy Biggs Leads the Charge to Have Ilhan Omar Stripped of Committee Assignments Over Past Comments

Democrats in the House of Representatives are currently engaged in a significant effort to have Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) stripped of her committee assignments over comments she made prior to taking office just last month.

In a counter measure, a group of Republicans led by Rep Andy Biggs (R-AZ) have proposed to strip Rep Ilhan Omar (R-MN) of her committee assignments for comments that she has made since taking office in 2018.

Biggs tweeted out earlier today regarding the proposal, “Leftist Members of Congress have advocated for violence, anti-Semitism, anti-law enforcement, & other sentiments that have violated rules of decorum & principles of American decency.”

“That’s why I’m calling for Rep Omar to be removed from her committee. The left, and their allies in the mainstream media, have ignored and buried these egregious statements, while projecting their sins upon Republicans,” Biggs continued.

Biggs concluded by insisting that “The American people are repulsed by this hypocritical double standard and overt attempt to remove Republicans from power.”

Reps. Brian Babin (R-TX), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Jody Hice (R-GA), and Ronny Jackson (R-TX) have joined Biggs in sponsoring the proposed amendment.

Fox News recently reported that Omar’s reelection campaign sent out a fundraising email to supporters today seeking to raise $150,000 to counter Greene and the GOP after Greene announced yesterday that she raised $160,000 to counter the Democrats efforts against her.

Fellow member of “The Squad” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) was one of the first to come to Omar’s defense in a tweet.

Tlaib claimed, “Let’s be clear: this false equivalency is a pathetically desperate smear rooted in racism, misogyny, and Islamophobia. Marjorie Taylor Greene has incited violence against her fellow members of Congress. She’s unfit to serve, even by today’s #GOP standards.”

Greene responded to that tweet with a screen shot of an Omar tweet promoting the “Minnesota Freedom Fund” and said, “Here’s Ilhan Omar providing material support to BLM / Antifa domestic terrorists.”

Omar has also released a statement echoing Tlaib’s words and attacking Greene. Greene responded to Omar’s statement and said, “You provided aid and comfort to enemies of the American people that rioted violently in your state by sharing MFF bail bond links.”
