Bette Midler Apologizes For ‘Outburst’ Categorizing West Virginians as ‘Poor, Illiterate and Strung Out’

West Virginia Democratic U.S. Sen Joe Manchin’s refusal to go along with Democrat plans to pass the monsterous Build Back Better Act has many on the left flipping out, with some directing their ire at those living in his home state.

In a tweet, actress Bette Midler ranted, “What #JoeManchin, who represents a population smaller than Brooklyn, has done to the rest of America, who wants to move forward, not backward, like his state, is horrible.”

“He sold us out. He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and strung out,” Midler explained, taking a shot at West Virginians.

Blowback was swift for Midler as many responded to let her know they did not appreciate her taking a swipe at the mountain state, known for its hardworking people.

“Just stop…when was the last time that you were here? How many people have you met from WV? Enough with the stereotypes. I am glad that he voted against this massive spending bill, and so are the majority of the WV people,” Twitter user “Debbie B” told Midler.

Another Twitter user, Bonnie Shannon, responded to Midler, “WV is a beautiful state with loyal hard working people who want desperately to make a good living for their families! Politicians have used WV workers for years to make coal companies rich on the backs of hard working dying coal miners.”

After retweeting Shannon’s reply, Midler then issued an apology to the people of West Virginia for her “Outburst.”

“I apologize to the good people of WVA for my last outburst. I’m just seeing red; #JoeManchin and his whole family are a criminal enterprise. Is he really the best WV has to offer its own citizens? Surely there’s someone there who has the state’s interests at heart, not his own!” Midler declared.

Many progressive Democrats now want to primary Manchin, who is up for re-election in 2024, although that would certainly spell doom for their chances at retaining the seat.

In 2020, Manchin’s fellow West Virginia senator, Shelley Moore Caputo, a Republican, won the state with over 70% of the vote.
