Biden Inauguration singer Eric Burton, who is in the Black Pumas band, botched the national anthem prior to the opening World Series game.
Video from the performance shows Burton singing the line, “What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last streaming” instead of “gleaming.”
Burton also repeated that line twice instead of, “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming.”
Many apparently didn’t seem to notice as Burton received an ovation at the end of his performance from the fans in the crowd.

Associate editor for The Athletic, Lukas Weese, apparently noticed the flub and asked in a tweet, “Was it just me or did Eric Burton mess up the national anthem?”

Another Twitter user asked in a tweet, “Who is eric burton and who let him sing the national anthem (1) off key and (2) with the wrong lyrics?”

One fan offered a harsh critique as he pointed out in a tweet, “Eric burton is a 6 time Grammy nominee… there’s a reason he’s only a nominee what a horrible performance.”

There were some fans, however, who praised the performance, including one fan who declared in a tweet, “Wow, #EricBurton, I’ve always loved @BlackPumasMusic but that National Anthem @MLB#WorldSeries2022 was insanely great.”
