President Donald Trump’s Attorney General William Barr is making sure the recent election that is being reported to have gone in favor of Joe Biden being elected president was legitimate.
Barr has given the green light for federal prosecutors across the U.S. to pursue “substantial allegations” of voting irregularities. Many media outlets are reporting that there isn’t much evidence, and that remains to be seen.
While the presidential race has largely been called for Biden, Trump and his team have clearly not given up just yet, and it’s not surprising with Donald Trump’s history of being a fighter, coupled with the bizarre circumstances of the 2020 presidential election including larger than normal mail-in votes.
This certainly is an unprecedented election the likes of which we haven’t seen before, but only time will tell if prosecutors find enough evidence to upend Biden’s reported win before the certifications make everything official. The Independent reported:
In a memo to U.S. attorneys, obtained by The Associated Press, Barr wrote that investigations “may be conducted if there are clear and apparently-credible allegations of irregularities that, if true, could potentially impact the outcome of a federal election in an individual State.”
States have until Dec. 8 to resolve election disputes, including recounts and court contests over the results. Members of the Electoral College meet Dec. 14 to finalize the outcome.
Many have congratulated Joe Biden but also said that Trump should still be able to pursue legal options just in case, including George W. Bush. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has not congratulated Biden yet and Senator Lindsey Graham says President Trump should pursue all options.
