In an exclusive interview with “CBS Mornings” anchor Gayle King, Bill Gates’ ex-wife Melinda French Gates opened up about their divorce.
In a preview of the interview, French Gates told King that she cried “for many days” and laid on the carpet wondering, “How can this be? How can I get up? How am I gonna move forward?”
French Gates said there were days that she was angry following the split and chalked it up as “part of the grieving process.”
“You’re grieving a loss of something you thought you had and thought you had for your lifetime,” French Gates explained.
French Gates also said that “At the end of the day though, I started on this journey of healing, and I feel like I’m starting to get to the other side. And I do feel like I’m turning a page in the chapter now. I mean, it’s 2022 and I’m actually really excited about what’s to come and life ahead for me.”
When asked by King about the revelation that Gates had an affair back in 2000, French Gates responded, “I certainly believe in forgiveness, so I thought we had worked through some of that.”
Ultimately, French Gates said that she believed wasn’t necessarily the catalyst for the divorce as she explained, “It wasn’t one moment or one specific thing that happened.”
“There just came a point in time where there was enough there that I realized it just wasn’t healthy, and I couldn’t trust what we had,” French Gates added.
The full interview will be aired on Thursday morning.
As we previously reported, Gates didn’t appear to take the split very well at first either as pictures showed he had gained some weight, although he looked more trim at a recent event.
