HBO’s Bill Maher has made headlines recently for going against what many Democrats are saying in regards to COVID mandates and things of that nature.
On his “Real Time” show last night, however, Maher said something that certainly erases any goodwill that he might have built up with conservatives.
Maher was apparently upset with the treatment of Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, by Republicans in the Judiciary Committee.
During a panel discussion, Maher, who is white, began, “We have the first black woman… The first black we ever had – we’ve only had two, Thurgood Marshall, 1967.”
“When he died, it was George Bush, the first, was president. And so they accepted the idea that there was now a black seat on the court and that’s how we got to Clarence Thomas,” Maher continued.
Maher then suggested, “Now, I thought it was not exactly crooked to give the black seat to somebody who didn’t represent the majority of black thinking in America, but here’s the difference, at least they accepted, George Bush did, the idea of at least one black seat on the court.”
“I think that today’s Republicans would not do that. I think they would be thrilled to have no black seats on the court. Okay, a lot of them,” Maher claimed.
MSNBC analyst John Heilemann, who is also white, agreed with Maher, “judging the way they treated” Jackson, which he asserted was “racist top to bottom through the whole week.”
Dave Kopenhaver, known for his work on Live PD, discussed the situation in a tweet where he said of the claim, “What a lie.”
“This is why I’m reluctant to RT his quotes whenever he rips the Left. Clarence Thomas, most conservatives would agree, is the best justice we have on the bench,” Kopenhaver explained.
