Billionaire Carl Icahn: ‘The Manager of a Company Should not be Allowed to Decide Who the Hell Should Talk and Who Shouldn’t… ‘Really Happy that Musk Came Along…’, Would Have Considered Helping with Twitter Deal

Reports are going around that Twitter is now growing and ads aren’t going away despite a few “woke” corporations boycotting buying ads on Twitter temporarily. It seems that Twitter was losing tons of money before Musk took over. Musk is now taking action to try and stop the hemorrhaging with $7.99 Twitter Blue subscriptions and other aspirational measures.

Many, it seems, on the left would love nothing more than to see Musk fail, despite how much they love Twitter. Carl Icahn recently spoke out on what he thinks of the whole deal. Icahn bought and sold lots of Twitter stock during the acquisition drama.

When Musk paused the deal and the stock dropped, Icahn stepped in. Icahn is reported to be worth nearly $19 billion. In the CNBC video clip below, Carl Icahn said he would have helped Elon Musk buy Twitter if he needed the money.

Icahn was even thinking of getting on the board of Twitter and becoming a free speech activist, had Musk not purchased it, it seems. Icahn mentioned in fact, that he would have been willing to put up one billion dollars for Musk’s deal, but said “nobody ever called”. Icahn implied that he looked at the balance sheets of Musk’s companies and doesn’t feel he needs the money anyway.

“$500 million stake you bought, in the $30s…” Icahn is asked about his big Twitter investment which was wildly profitable before he takes over the conversation. Carl Icahn:

“Yeah generally don’t do it but in that one, I felt that as an example of how I feel about corporate governance in the country. I mean I’ll ask you if you own a string of restaurants, would you let the manager of each restaurant decide who could come and eat at the restaurant? I mean, I felt what Twitter was doing was a complete violation of the first amendment. A lot of people called me about it and wanted me to do something about it as an activist. So I was gearing up and looking at it and thinking, you know, stock went down a little bit, and I started to buy stock, and I was going to try to get on the board of it. I’m not going to be here saying who can say something, people say nasty things. But the manager of a company shouldn’t be allowed to decide who the hell should talk and who shouldn’t. And then I was really happy that Musk came along because I think he stood for the same damn thing. I felt this is the perfect one for him, he’s a lot richer than I am. I’m not complaining but he’s a lot richer. I felt that he was the perfect guy for doing it and he didn’t need the money…”

Watch for more:

Icahn didn’t say it, but Donald Trump being banned probably affected the way he felt, as Icahn is a Trump ally. Although Trump hasn’t been unbanned from Twitter yet, many are hopeful that Musk does reverse that ban and many others in the near future.

Icahn saying what he said also means that even without Musk, many in the investment world were getting fed up with Twitter and its political bias and censorship in our view. Without Musk, there may have been action over time, to change Twitter, but it likely would not have been nearly as easy.
