The family of comedian Gilbert Gottfried announced today that he passed away at 67-years-old after battling “A long illness.”
“In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend, and father to his two young children,” the family explained.
The family then urged, “Although is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor.”

Fellow comedian Jason Alexander initially broke the news prior to the Gottfried family’s announcement.
“Gilbert Gottfried made me laugh at times when laughter did not come easily. What a gift. I did not know him well but I loved what he shared with me,” Alexander said in a tweet.
Alexander added, “My best wishes and sympathy to his family. #ripGilbertGottfried.”

Twitter user Mike Beauvais quote-tweeted a tweet that Gottfried made on Jan. 21 where he had shared a picture of himself with comedians Bob Saget and Louie Anderson.
Gottfried said at the time in the tweet, “This photo is very sad now. RIP Bob Saget and RIP Louie Anderson. Both good friends that will be missed.”
Beauvais noted in the quote tweet, “Gilbert Gottfried posted this picture only three months ago. What a photo. RIP”
