House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes (R-CA) has filed a $435 million defamation lawsuit against CNN for a “demonstrably false hit piece”. Nunes announced his plans to do so last week.
The story ran on November 22 at which time the House Intelligence Committee was in the middle of public hearings for the Trump Impeachment Inquiry. The story on Nunes alleges that he met with former Ukraine chief prosecutor Viktor Shokin in Vienna in order to get dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden. CNN’s source for the story is disgraced Lev Parnas Ukrainian born Jewish former associate Rudy Giuliani.
Parnas claims that in December of 2018 Rep. Nunes traveled to Vienna to meet with Viktor Shokin for the dirt on Biden. Nunes did travel outside the country in December of 2018, leaving with three aids on November 30 and returning on December 3. He traveled to Libya and Malta. The lawsuit includes pictures of Nunes meeting with General Khalifa Haftar to discuss security issues then traveled to Malta to participate in a ceremony for an American World Wart II soldier that was MIA.
Nunes was on Hannity last night to talk about the suit and the spectacle the impeachment inquiry has been.

This isn’t the first defamation suit Nunes has filed there are quite a few others. Nunes filed a defamation suit in September of this year against reporter Ryan Lizza for a story that claimed the Nunes’ parents moved out of California for Iowa and that they were employing illegals. He is not letting the media drag him through the mud with false stories by filing all of the defamation suits.
As the Washington Examiner puts it, ‘it is extremely hard for a public figure like Nunes to prevail in a defamation suit against a media organization. The standard Nunes must meet is exceedingly high. But a lawsuit can also be a way of making a public statement, in this case about coverage of a high-profile, controversial issue.
In this new suit, Nunes does just that.it is extremely hard for a public figure like Nunes to prevail in a defamation suit against a media organization.
