Don Huffines Slams Greg Abbott for Allowing Texas History to be Erased, ‘Texas Removed More Monuments Than Any Other State in 2018’

Although former Donald trump has endorsed Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) to be re-elected, Don Huffines is saying “not so fast”. Huffines took to Twitter recently to trash and bash Greg Abbot for being on the wrong side of the historical monument debate taking place throughout the GOP. Huffines is challenging Abbott for Governor in the upcoming Republican primary.

Of course, the Democrats are glad to destroy much of American history in the name of “defeating White Supremacy”, but it’s a shock that many Republicans, such as Texas U.S. House Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) and Abbott himself. The fight over historical and Confederate monuments has been ongoing for some time now in Texas. Under Republican leadership, supporters of historic preservation are tragically losing the battle. Although to some all hope may seem lost, Huffines isn’t giving up.

His recent statement put out on Twitter reads:

“Over the past year, America has witnessed destruction of our heritage and anarchy in our streets. In a gross attempt to erase our nation’s history, woke leftists across America have sought to bring down our historical monuments. Their actions are outright disrespectful to our nation and our heritage. In 2018, Texas removed more monuments than any other state. This was on Abbott’s watch.

Huffines continued in his statement:

“Let me be clear: Texas has a proud and unique history that we cannot allow our enemies to erase. We know that the socialist agitators making war on our history and tearing down our monuments will not be satisfied until statues of Founding Fathers like Thomas Jefferson and even George Washington are removed from our public square; we have already seen that happen in other states. We cannot and will not let the radicals win. As Governor, I will protect Texas’ rich history and heritage from anarchists who would see it reimagined.”

According to the Dallas Morning News:

Symbols removed in Texas include a statue of Robert E. Lee that stood in Dallas’ Lee Park until September and statues of four Confederate figures at the University of Texas that were taken down in August. In December, the Dallas ISD board voted to change the names of three elementary schools that honored Confederate generals.

Other states that have removed a significant number of Confederate symbols since 2015 include Virginia (14), Florida (9), Georgia (8), Maryland (6), North Carolina (6) and Oklahoma (5).

“We’ve seen a remarkable effort to remove Confederate monuments from the public square, yet the impact has been limited by a strong backlash among many with Southerners who still cling to the myth of the ‘Lost Cause’ and the revisionist history that these monuments represent,” Heidi Beirich, director of the SPLC Intelligence Project, said in the report.

If you think the brutal historical destruction is over, it’s not. Far more monuments and symbols remain across the nation than have been removed around the nation. Gregg Abbott and other RINOs will not stand up in defense of history.

Former President Trump has a history of endorsing Republicans who he thinks will have the best chance of winning, as long as they haven’t directly attacked him, in our view. Trump himself has shown sympathy to those who want to preserve history, but this Abbott endorsement could be interpreted as him “playing the long game” rather than looking at every issue, although this one is huge to many. Time will tell if Huffines’s powerful message resonates enough to make a splash in the Texas GOP primary.
