Don Lemon got roasted this morning by co-host Poppy Harlow after claiming that 2024 GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley “Isn’t in her prime.”
Lemon was forced to defend himself after going on a bizarre tangent about why he believes Haley isn’t a serious presidential contender.
Haley is currently polling in single digits, but that has more to do with her positions on the issues and her record as governor of South Carolina.
The age issue was being discussed on the program because Haley called yesterday for “mental competency tests” for older politicians.
Lemon prefaced his comments by saying, “This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable. I think it’s the wrong road to go down.” He probably should have stopped there, in our view, but he kept going.
“She says people, you know, politicians are something not in their prime, Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry. When a woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s,” Lemon declared.
Harlow interjected, “What are you talking… wait,” as Lemon appeared to realize that he maybe had gone too far.
Lemon insisted, “That’s not according to me” as Harlow asked incredulously, “Prime for what?”
Stuttering, Lemon explained, “It depends. It’s just like prime if you look it up it’ll say… if you Google ‘When is a woman in her prime?’ it’ll say 20s, 30s, and 40s, I don’t necessarily, I’m not saying I agree with that.”
Harlow then mocked his response, throwing up her hands in a thankful manner, and said, “40s, so I got another decade.”
Lemon continued to double down as he reiterated, “So, I think she has to be careful about saying that, you know, politicians aren’t in their prime (at a certain age).”
Laughing, Harlow attempted to clarify, “I think we need to qualify, are you talking about prime for, like, childbearing or are you talking about prime for being president?”
Lemon then tried to save face as he told his co-hosts, “‘Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just saying what the facts are Google it. Everybody at home, when is a woman in her prime? It says 20s, 30s and 40s.”
“I’m just saying Nikki Haley should be careful about saying that politics are not in their prime, and they need to be in their prime when they serve because she would not be in her prime according to… (as Harlow said ‘Google’) Google or whatever it is,” Lemon concluded.
Don Lemon: "Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime. Sorry, when a woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s, and 30s, and maybe 40s…"
