Many new websites have been launched since conservatives started feeling like they were being unfairly censored on the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and other websites.
This has increased since Donald Trump was banned from Facebook and Twitter. Facebook says Donald Trump might be allowed back on their platform as early as 2023, assuming there are certain criteria met for him to be allowed back by then, including but not limited to things he is saying at rallies and on other platforms.
That isn’t good enough for Trump supporters and Donald Trump himself. Many have started using alternative websites and Donald Trump planned to start his own. Trump’s Truth Social is scheduled to launch its app next month. This is arguably why Trump is only putting out press releases and hasn’t joined other social media sites himself yet.
Other alternative sites have popped up such as Parler, MeWe, Spreely, Getter, Gab, Telegram, for example. Gab owner Andrew Torba says his site is the only one that supports true free speech, which is why they are banned from the Apple and Android stores. Meanwhile, the ADL and other leftist organizations have attempted to call Gab.com a place that harbors extremism and racism.
There is a fine line between what free speech should be defined as in the eyes of many, as some feel that porn, spam, and illegal activity are the only content that should be censored. This has led some to wonder if Trump’s Truth Social may censor some content too.
Although it’s clear that it will allow more speech than Facebook and Twitter, they have to have some rules to be allowed on the app stores. Many are concerned that this will just create a Trump echo chamber and not a true free speech platform, while others such as the ADL don’t feel true free speech should be allowed, begin with.
Fox Business reports that Truth Social is partnering with “Hive” based in San Francisco to use AI to stop illegal activity. But Hive is also partnered with OnlyFans, which many use to sell amateur pornography.
This may lead some to wonder if there will be any conflict of interest there, but time will tell how things go. Fox Business reported in part:
Fox Business has learned that TMTG is partnering with Hive—a San Francisco-based Series D start-up that provides automated solutions through cloud-based artificial intelligence for understanding images, videos, and text content. Hive’s technology provides automated content moderation across video, image, text and audio.
“We want to be very family-friendly, we want this to be a very safe place, and we are focused on making sure any illegal content is not on the site,” Nunes said in an exclusive interview with Fox Business.
“Hive has a great track record in this, and they have been good to work with,” Nunes continued. “They are very helpful for our team and because of their experience, I think they’re helping to craft the right spot for us.”…
…Hive also has dozens of other clients, including Reddit, Giphy, Yik Yak, OnlyFans, Omegle, Josh, IRL, Yubo, Tango, and more.
In the world of censorship, free speech, and ever-evolving divisiveness in U.S. politics, no one can truly predict what the future of social media may look like.
