Elon Musk today poked fun at a new Pfizer commercial featuring Martha Stewart sharpening a Samurai sword as he pointed out that the ad makes parody and reality “indistinguishable.”
According to an article from Fierce Pharma, the 30-second spot, titled “Unwelcome Guest,” features Stewart “calmly” sharpening a massive Samurai sword in what they describe as her “beautifully perfect kitchen.”
In the scene, which is reminiscent of the movie “Kill Bill,” Stewart asks, “You know that unwelcome guest everyone wishes would leave already?”
“That’s COVID-19,” Stewart declares, explaining “That’s why I got the new, updated booster, designed to help protect against recent Omicron variants.”
Stewart then lops the top off a pineapple before dropping it in her trash can and concluding, “Got it?” while pulling back her sleeve to reveal a band-aid that purports to show where she got her shot at.
The words “got booster” also pop up on the screen in almost the exact same font as Goodby Silverstein & Partners 1993 California Milk Processor Board “got milk” ads, Fierce Pharma noted.
Fierce Pharma pointed out in the article that Stewart is an octogenarian, which makes her the “right target for pushing the booster.”
Musk responded to a Twitter user who shared a clip of the ad in a tweet and said, “Once again, parody & reality are indistinguishable,” along with a laughing face emoji.
Once again, parody & reality are indistinguishable 😂
