Matt Taibbi and Joe Rogan spoke on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Joe Rogan mentioned that there is actually pushback when someone “types something that is ridiculous” on Twitter now that people are not afraid to get banned over almost anything right wing.
“Matt Taibbi & Joe Rogan on Twitter 2.0 and the Fall of Cancel Culture “The old Twitter was just a grindstone of official messaging”
“People aren’t scared to go in after it, they’re not worried about losing their account, which they were before…” Rogan says.
“You are seeing a much more vigorous debate…” he continued.
Taibbi, who helped publish some of the Twitter files, said “I hope that’s one of the results [of Musk buying Twitter], the old Twitter was just a grindstone of official messaging”
Taibbi explained how anyone right of center ended up “not wanting to bother” debating because of leftist Twitter trolls. Under the old Twitter, leftists got away with almost anything in our observations, and right wing people got banned left and right. Watch the clip:
Twitter CEO Elon Musk responded to the clip:
“RIP Cancel Culture, you won’t be missed”
Musk still has a few people left to unban who didn’t deserve to be banned in our view. However, the fact is that Twitter is a more reasonable place, albeit not perfect.
Social media is important to people on both sides of the political spectrum as well as those who feel neither side accurately represents them. Putting a thumb on the scale only adds to division in our nation in a time when things feel they couldn’t get worse. Hopefully lessons can be learned as the nation struggles to unite and find an identity in the age of CRT, cancel culture and poor government management.
