Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Twitter, has called on Congress to ban transgender surgery or “sterilization” for minors. In a tweet on Friday, Musk said that “any parent or doctor who sterilizes a child before they are a consenting adult should go to prison for life.”
Musk added recently that he would like congress to act. In response to Zerohedge on Twitter saying:
“*SENATE BILL WOULD SET AGE LIMIT FOR KIDS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: WAPO“, Musk replied, “Age limit for sterilization by the state or parents too? Or is that too much to hope for.”
It is sad that the country is so divided that moderates and Republicans see child transgender surgeries as something awful and mention that children can’t legally consent to so many other things, therefore they shouldn’t be able to consent to that. Meanwhile many leftists think that these children are in danger if they don’t change their gender. Many of us struggle to understand where the danger lies in letting children be children and waiting until adulthood at the very least before making such a life altering choice in our view.
Musk’s comments come amid a growing debate over transgender rights in the United States. In recent years, several states have passed laws that restrict access to what leftists refer to as “gender-affirming care” for transgender minors. These laws have been met with fierce opposition from LGBTQ+ advocates, who argue that they discriminate against transgender youth and put their “health at risk”.
Musk’s comments have been praised by some conservative lawmakers, who have long opposed transgender surgery for children. However, they have also been criticized by LGBTQ+ advocates, who say that they are harmful and “transphobic”.
In addition to his comments on transgender surgery, Musk has also proposed new rules for social media platforms that would protect children from harmful content.
Musk’s proposals have been met with mixed reactions. Some people have praised him for taking steps to protect children, while others have criticized him for being too restrictive. It remains to be seen whether Musk will be able to implement his proposals, but his comments have certainly sparked a debate about the future of social media.
