Elton John became the latest rocker today to announce his departure from Twitter as he accused the social media platform of allowing “misinformation to flourish unchecked.”
For Twitter owner Elon Musk, the musician’s departure was apparently disappointing as he responded by asking what the specific issue was.
In his departing tweet, Elton John said, “All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world. “
“I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked,” he explained.
Musk told him in response, “I love your music. Hope you come back.”
“Is there any misinformation in particular that you’re concerned about?” Musk wondered.

Twitter user “Niche Gamer” attempted to soften the blow as he suggested that “it’s prob another newly minted marxist social media person w/brain damage that posted this, Elton likely has nothing to do (with) what’s posted on here.”
Musk appeared to agree as he said, “It’s true that most celebrities don’t write their own posts. More should. Way better to hear directly from them.”
Elton John’s account did seem to tweet and retweet other tweets often, however, it certainly had the hallmarks of someone else running the account, rather than him ever sharing any personal thoughts.
