Anthony Fauci made his position clear today on whether or not he would continue to serve as the White House Chief Medical Advisor if Donald Trump were to become president again.
Fauci also took a shot at the Trump administration’s response to COVID, despite the fact that he was a part of the response early on.
CNN’s Jim Acosta asked Fauci during an interview, “If Trump were to return to the White House as president and COVID was still a threat or there was some other health emergency, would you have confidence in his ability to deal with a pandemic of this nature. Would you want to stay on in your post?”
After a long pause, Fauci responded, “Well no… to your second question, the first question…”
A smirking Acosta cut in, “I think I knew the answer, but I had to ask you.”
“If you look at the history of what the response was during the administration, I think, you know, at best, you can say it wasn’t optimal. History will speak for itself about that,” Fauci suggested.
Fauci added, “I don’t need to make any further comment on that, it’s not productive.”
“You would not serve with Trump again though, fair to say?” Acosta reiterated.
Fauci confirmed, “Right, for sure.”
As The Hill noted, Fauci has remained a top pandemic adviser under the Biden administration, and he said in January 2021 after Biden took over that it was “liberating” to work with the new president.
