Former Idaho police officer Nate Silvester spoke out after he was terminated from his job recently, following a return from suspension for a viral TikTok video he made mocking LeBron James.
The former Bellevue Marshal deputy said that he has no regrets for making the video, despite the end result.
Of the firing, Silvester said, “It was shocking, but it wasn’t surprising. It was disappointing because I do love being a police officer but it’s unfortunate that you cant do that job and have first amendment rights like everyone else.”
“It’s frustrating and sad to know that’s all it takes is for an officer to speak his mind, share his opinion and for that stuff to matter more than to do police work,” Silvester explained.
“I would do it all over again and I probably would’ve done it sooner. I don’t regret any part of this,” Silvester said according to KTVB 7.
“I’ve been given a platform and a stage now and a voice to speak on behalf of law enforcement and use that influence to benefit other police officers,” Silvester added, defiantly.
In another interview with conservative host Joe Pagliarulo, Silvester explained why he was fired.
“The Mayor, he’s really been heavily scrutinizing me and been digging deep for any reason to fire me… the official reason that they gave was that I used bodycam video in a separate TikTok that I made without permission,” Silvester said.
Silvester told Pagliarulo that he would not go back to his job if offered, but that he still advocates for police officers in general, despite the prevalent hatred out there for them, primarily coming from the left.
As someone who has been in law enforcement for more than 12 years, Silvester felt this video should have had no bearing on his job and he now plans to advocate for other officers.
