President Joe Biden is delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress tonight and many on the political spectrum are weighing in with their opinions on the speech.
Former Trump 2020 Communications Director Tim Murtaugh criticized Biden for one phrase that he used during the speech.
Biden said during the speech, “America is an idea – unique in the world. We are all created equal. It’s who we are. We cannot walk away from that principle.”
Murtaugh blasted the president for suggesting that the country is merely an idea and claimed that Biden had referred to Antifa as “an idea,” although that was once fact-checked to be “missing context” as USA Today said, “Biden appropriately credited the statement to FBI Director Chris Wray.”
In a tweet, Murtaugh said, “America is not an ‘idea,’ as Biden just said. It’s the greatest nation the world has ever known. And for the record, Biden also said that Antifa was just an ‘idea.'”

And for the record, Biden also said that Antifa was just an “idea.”
Previously, however, Biden has also referred to America as “an idea.” It was the title of the video launching his campaign in 2019.
Last October, during the 2020 campaign, then-presidential nominee Biden also declared in an interview that the United States of America “was an idea” that “we’ve never lived up to.”
