Gov. Abbott Makes Move: Hundreds of Texas DPS Troopers Surge, Halt Flow of Migrants Across Rio Grande

Thousands of migrants have been crossing the Rio Grande in recent days entering into Del Rio, TX from Mexico and massing under the international bridge.

Today, a shocking video taken by Fox News’ Bill Melugin showed what appeared to be the largest gathering yet coming across the river.

Melugin has now tweeted out photos showing a massive presence of DPS troopers at that entry point, who have apparently halted the flow of migrants.

“BREAKING: After @GregAbbott_TX surged @TxDPS troopers into Del Rio, it appears that illegal migrants crossings at the river have come to a halt for now. DPS tells me hundreds of their troopers are now there to provide security and a physical deterrent. Courtesy: TX DPS @FoxNews,” Melugin reported.

In an additional tweet, Melugin quote tweeted an earlier tweet which contained a video showing “what the same location looked like earlier today.”

Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted out a picture of his own from the scene and declared, “The Texas Department of Public Safety is in full force along the border around the Del Rio area. They have built a barricade with their squad cars and State Troopers. The National Guard is working with them to secure the border.”

Yesterday, Abbott shared an article in a tweet which discussed what we had reported on as well, that the Biden Administration was planning to fly the migrants back to Haiti.

“The Biden Admin. says it will begin wide scale expulsion of Haitian migrants from Texas border city by putting them on on flights to Haiti starting Sunday. Texas National Guard & Dept. of Public Safety will remain vigilant in guarding area” Abbott said in the tweet.

It appears, however, that Abbott had gown impatient with continuing in a holding pattern as the situation becomes more untenable.

A WordPress article explains that a couple of hundred yards into Texas one comes to a chain-link fence patrolled by CBP, which is next to the international bridge.

Abbott was set to shut down six points of entry but was forced to reverse course after the Biden administration shot it down after asking for assistance previously.
