Illinois Police Officer Shoots and Kills Hatchet-Wielding Man Who Randomly Tried to Attack Him During Unrelated Traffic Stop

A dramatic video shows an Illinois police officer shooting and killing a hatchet-wielding man who randomly tried to attack him during an unrelated traffic stop that took place on June 3.

Jack Posobiec shared the video in a tweet and said, “This has to be one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen.”

“Car randomly pulls up next to a cop, driver jumps out with an axe,” Posobiec declared.

Posobiec later added in a quote tweet, “Look at the clock. There are only 8 seconds between the car door opening and the officer calling in the shooting. Insanity.”

The video, which was released by the Naperville police, shows two different views, one from the dashcam of the officer and one from his bodycam.

In the bodycam footage, the officer can be seen appearing surprised as the hatchet-wielding man pulls up to the traffic stop in a car.

“Who are you dude, who are you?” the officer asked as the man opens the car door and jumps out, as the hatchet can be seen.

The man then charges the officer, who is able to pull out a firearm and fire six shots to neutralize the threat.

The officer radioed dispatch and said, “I’ve just been attacked, shots fired, shots fired.”

“Don’t move, don’t move,” the officer told the man, before telling dispatch to “Send a medic!”

According to the DuPage County coroner’s office, Edward C. Samaan, of Naperville, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
