Comedian Trevor Noah signed off on his last episode of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” by thanking his fans but also by discussing race.
Noah noted that “I remember when we started the show, we couldn’t get enough people to fill an audience.”
“There were empty seats and then I look at this now, I don’t take it for granted ever,” Noah insisted.
However, as The Hill’s Joe Concha pointed out, Noah “inherited a show that averaged more than 1.3 million viewers per night and finished with an audience that struggled to surpass 350,000 viewers.”
Concha was responding to an article from Variety that suggested that Noah was leaving the show as a “superstar.”

Noah wasn’t finished, however, as he declared, “Special shout out to black women. I’ve often been credited with having these grand ideas.”
“People say, ‘Oh Trevor, you’re so smart.’ I’m like, ‘Who do you think teaches me? Who do you think shaped me, nourished me and formed me?'” Noah insisted.
Noah continued, “From my mom, my grand[mom], my aunt, all these black women in my life, but in America as well.”
While he appeared to be holding back tears, Noah claimed that “Black people understand how hard it is when things go bad, especially in America, but any place where black people live… when things go bad, black people know that it’s worse for them. Black women in particular, they know what sh*t is. They know what happens if things do not go the way it should.”
