Jacklyn Zeman, who played the role of Bobbie Spencer on the ABC soap opera “General Hospital” for nearly 50 years, died on Wednesday at the age of 70. Her family confirmed the news in a statement.
“I am heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Jackie Zeman,” the statement said from the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini. “Just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright light and a true professional that brought so much positive energy with her work.”
Zeman was born in Englewood New Jersey, in 1953 and began her acting career in the early 1970s. She joined the cast of “General Hospital” in 1977 and quickly became one of the show’s most popular characters.
Zeman remained with “General Hospital” for the rest of her career, making her the longest-serving cast member in the show’s history. She also appeared in several television films and made-for-TV movies, including “Chicago Hope” and “The Mission.”
Zeman is survived by two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey.
It’s tragic but ultimately a foregone conclusion that we will all pass away eventually. We wish the best for Zeman’s family and friends as they navigate this troubling time.
