U.S. House Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced today that the House Judiciary Committee has sent out subpoenas to big tech CEOs including Apple CEO Tim Cook and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
According to the Wall Steet Journal, which was the first to report on the news, the subpoenas demand information on how the companies moderate content on their online platforms.
Since purchasing Twitter, Elon Musk appears to be trying his best to be transparent about moderation on the platform, although he is also now facing the most scrutiny from the mainstream media.
“We just subpoenaed Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple regarding Big Tech’s reported collusion with the federal government,” Jordan reported in a tweet.
Jordan added that the subpoenas are “Step one towards accountability.”

Step one towards accountability.
Sundar Pichai of Alphabet Inc. (Google), Satya Nadella of Microsoft, and Andy Jassy of Amazon also received subpoenas.
Microsoft spokesperson Kate Frischmann said, “We have started producing documents, are engaged with the committee, and committed to working in good faith.”
WSJ predictably noted that the committee didn’t demand information from Twitter and that the platform is now “seen as more friendly to conservative voices since its change in ownership.”
