Jose Inez Garcia Zarate, found not guilty of killing Kate Steinle in 2017 based on his defense that the gun used in the killing went off accidentally, has now had his gun charge thrown out as well. This was the only charge left for those who believed him to be guilty to be able to hold him somewhat accountable. Zarate, an illegal immigrant, looks like he’s in for more good news, which translates to bad news for the Steinle family.
The initial conviction has Zarate as being guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm. A California appeals court overturned that guilty charge as well today, as reported by San Francisco Chronicle.
