Comedian Kathy Griffin was mentioned on Friday during Sarah Palin’s defamation lawsuit against the New York Times trial.
In response to her name being mentioned, Griffin said she was “thrilled” to have been mentioned and thinks Palin will lose because of her.
“I am thrilled to have the distinguished honor of being one of the reasons that Sarah Palin will lose this case in federal court,” Griffin said when asked by Buzzfeed News.
Griffin’s name was ultimately brought up because Palin’s lawyers were attempting to show bias at the Times.
Pictures from a photoshoot that depicted Griffin holding up a severed head of then-President Donald Trump were released just two weeks prior to the Congressional baseball field shooting that was committed by a radical left-winger.
Palin’s lawsuit alleges that the Times June 14, 2017 editorial “falsely” reported that she “incited Jared Loughner’s Jan. 8, 2011, shooting rampage” in Arizona where Jared Loughner shot 19 people, including the severely wounded former U.S. House Rep Gabby Giffords (D-AZ).
Palin’s team has attempted to portray the newspaper staff as acting with an anti-Republican, anti-Palin bias when they published the editorial, which falsely referenced a “clear” link of “political incitement” between a Palin political action committee map and the shooting and no such link was ever found.
Palin’s attorney Shane Vogt had Times writer Elizabeth Williamson, who was testifying acknowledge that the editorial condemning overheated political rhetoric, “America’s Lethal Politics,” did not mention the comedian’s stunt photo featuring her holding a mock bloodied, severed head of Trump.
