It was reported today that a federal judge in Texas has temporarily blocked a move by President Biden to halt the deportation of certain immigrants for a 100-day period, in what experts call a swift legal setback for the new his ambitious immigration agenda.
An appointee of former President Donald Trump in the Southern District of Texas, U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton, issued a temporary restraining order that blocks the policy nationwide for 14 days following a lawsuit that was brought forth by Texas AG Ken Paxton.
In the suit, Paxton claimed the directive breaches a deal reached between the state and the Department of Homeland Security less than two weeks before the end of the Trump administration, under which DHS agreed to consult with Texas before making any changes to deportation regulations.
Paxton tweeted out after the news declaring “VICTORY.”
“Texas is the FIRST state in the nation to bring a lawsuit against the Biden Admin,” Paxton said and then exclaimed, “AND WE WON.”
Paxton continued, “Within 6 days of Biden’s inauguration, Texas has HALTED his illegal deportation freeze.”
“[This] was a seditious left-wing insurrection. And my team and I stopped it,” Paxton concluded, a claim that is sure to be challenged by many on the left and in the media.
VICTORY.

Judge Tipton heard arguments Friday on the state’s request for a temporary restraining order against the plan while the case proceeded and said he’d issue a decision later.
In the complaint, Paxton blasted the changes enacted by the Biden administration and said, “On its first day in office, the Biden Administration cast aside congressionally enacted immigration laws and suspended the removal of illegal aliens whose removal is compelled by those very laws.”
“In doing so, it ignored basic constitutional principles and violated its written pledge to work cooperatively with the State of Texas to address shared immigration enforcement concerns,” Paxton added.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) also criticized the move by the Biden administration in a tweet and supported the suit by Paxton where he said, “This abandons the obligation to enforce federal immigration laws. Texas is fighting this attempt to grant blanket amnesty.”
