U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) sent shockwaves through the Democrat party today when she announced that she has left to become an Independent.
It was the first time since 2009 that a sitting senator has changed their party affiliation. That was when former Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter left the GOP to become a Democrat.
Prior to that, former Sen. Joe Lieberman switched from Democrat to independent after losing the Democratic primary in 2006. He ended up winning re-election and served another term as an Independent Democrat.
U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) celebrated the news in a tweet where she declared that it’s “Good to see @KyrstenSinema leaving the Democrat Party.”
“Just this year we’ve had @TulsiGabbard & Senator Sinema – both high profile Democrats – change parties,” Boebert pointed out.
Boebert added that she hopes “many more see the light!”

Gabbard’s exodus, however, does appear to be different than Sinema, at least thus far, as Sinema didn’t speak out against the Democrat party necessarily.
On the other hand, Gabbard shared a video of an interview she did with Fox News’ Jesse Watters in a tweet today and said, “One of the main reasons I left today’s Dem Party is bc of their obsession with race, sexuality & other externals instead of merit.”
“America is the greatest country in world because it’s a meritocracy. If we become a society based on externals, America’s excellence will be history,” Gabbard insisted.
