House Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) called out the lead impeachment manager, House Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) in what he called today’s “show trial” of former President Trump.
Biggs pointed out that Raskin “objected to the Electoral College counts in 2017.” An article published last month by Real Clear Politics said that Raskin argued that, due to a legal technicality, Florida’s slate of electors should be set aside.
“Back then, such a move wasn’t considered ‘sedition’ or ‘overturning an election.’ Not when a Democrat did it,” Biggs said of the move.

Democrats have pointed out that there was nobody encouraging protesters to try to overrun the Capitol at that point, although two weeks later at the inauguration, rioters marched through the streets of Washington D.C., assaulted police officers, set fires, and caused property damage.
In an interview with the Baltimore Sun prior to his objection, Raskin claimed, “I would love to challenge the Electoral College vote because our election was badly tainted by everything from cyber-sabotage by Vladimir Putin, to deliberate voter suppression by Republicans in numerous swing states.”
Raskin acknowledged, as many Republicans did prior to their January challenges to the certification that “It’s a very hard thing to prove that an election would have turned out differently than it did, and the law requires a challenge from both the House and the Senate, and I’m not seeing that happen.”
Politico noted in their 2017 article that at times, Democratic objectors attempted to lodge complains over Biden’s attempts to gavel the session along.
When House Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) objected to Michigan’s votes, then Vice President Biden gaveled her silent, but she quickly started speaking again while Biden repeatedly slammed the gavel while Republicans began shouting for “order” in the chamber and the episode was repeated when Jackson Lee objected to South Carolina’s vote.
After the session, Republicans blasted Democrats’ failed anti-Trump effort and considering they held the House, they could have taken action against the Democrats who baselessly objected.
Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) said “It’s kind of embarrassing” and that senators didn’t join because “they realized it was just a protest and it wasn’t real.”
