It was reported today that former Democratic U.S. House Rep Beto O’Rourke is preparing to run for governor of Texas in 2022.
This would be O’Rourke’s third run for political office in the last four years, with his previous two attempts, for U.S. Senate and President, coming up short.
Trump supporter and civil rights lawyer Leo Terrell predicted that if O’Rourke were to run, he would lose for a third time.
Terrell exclaimed, “Beto O’Rourke ran for Senator and LOST! Beto O’Rourke ran for President and LOST! Beto O’Rourke is running for Governor and will LOSE!!”

The Republican senator who defeated O’Rourke, Ted Cruz, also weighed in on the news and said, “Beto trying to take on Abbott,” followed by laugh face emojis.
“Worth re-listening to this musical wisdom,” Cruz added with a wink face and then shared shared a link to a YouTube video, an ad from the campaign where he defeated O’Rourke, titled, “If You’re Gonna Run in Texas.”
It was a play on the Alabama song, “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas” and stated that “you can’t be a liberal man” if you want to run in Texas.

Terrell also tweeted out about the announcement, “Texans hide your guns: Beto O’Rourke is running for Governor.”
O’Rourke had infamously said during a presidential debate in 2019, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”

When the news first broke, Terrell, a California resident, declared, “I am planning to visit Texas ASAP.”

Liberals on Twitter celebrated the news, apparently believing that O’Rourke has a shot to unseat current Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
Beto O'Rourke would be a massively better Governor than Greg Abbott.

Can I get a hell yeah?
David Wysong, O’Rourke’s former House chief of staff and a longtime adviser, however, pumped the brakes on the idea that a decision had been made.
Wysong said, “No decision has been made. He has been making and receiving calls with people from all over the state.”
