U.S. House Rep Liz Cheney (R-WY) officially announced that she was running for re-election today, two days before the 45th President Donald Trump is hosting a rally for one of her primary opponents, Harriet Hageman.
As Fox News noted, Cheney made the announcement despite steep opposition from Republican leadership.
“In Wyoming, we know what it means to ride for the brand. We live in the greatest nation God has ever created, and our brand is the U.S. Constitution,” Cheney declared in a tweet.
Cheney then announced, “I’m running for re-election and asking for your vote because this is a fight we must win.”

Trump announced on Monday his plans to hold a rally in Casper, Wyoming on Saturday, May 28.
In March, the Wyoming legislature decided against scrapping same-day party registration in primaries, which would have prevented Democrats from crossing party lines and registering as Republicans to vote for Cheney in the state’s Aug. 16 primary.
For Cheney to stand a chance, she would likely need as many crossover votes as she can get in a state that voted nearly 70% for Trump in the presidential election.
Cheney also received nearly 70% of the votes in her House race that year as well, but a December 2021 poll showed that Hageman led Cheney, 38%-18%.
Hageman tweeted today, “Today, we officially filed to run for Congress. I love Wyoming, it’s in my DNA, and we need a member of Congress who will fight for us. Together, we’ve got this.”
