Twitter and other social media outlets are ablaze with chatter after a recent meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and new UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Macron, a centrist, and Johson, seen by some as the UK’s version of Trump, had some very interesting interactions indeed!
Before a statement on ongoing Brexit negotiations, Macron and Johnson shook hands in what appeared very similar to the time President Trump held Macron’s hand for a very long time while shaking it. Perhaps Macron thought he’d try a little bit of the old Trump-ism on Johnson, or maybe the two of them were just playing around. See the video below and decide for yourself!

In a video sourced from NBC News’s YouTube channel, you can see below the earlier example where President Trump has a very awkward handshake with Macron in 2017, at one point appearing to not let go of Macron’s hand long after he was likely done shaking his hand. Below that yet another example of one of the Trump-Macron handshakes as well from Bloomberg Politics.

Later on, Boris Johnson was apparently invited to spend some time at Macron’s Elysee Palace residence and was spotted putting his foot on what appears to be a very expensive piece of furniture in what the internet apparently took out of context as some sort of macho comeback. According to Richard Chambers from Virgin Media News’ tweet, That ‘foot on furniture’ interaction was just the two of them playing as Macron told him the piece of furniture was to be used for his feet and he played along.
Chambers tweeted:
“Today’s debunked internet rager: The photo of Boris Johnson with his foot on the table.
In the Reuters clip, Macron jokes that the tiny table could be used with his chair as a recliner.
Johnson plays along.”

Amidst the pre-debunk speculation, many users on Twitter posted jokes implying Johnson was possibly being disrespectful, one of which was featured by RT News.
As featured in an ‘RT News‘ article, a Twitter user hilariously posted one of many reposts with commentary on this interaction. Twitter user ‘Amanda’ tweeted out:
“When you’re a teenage lad and invite your mates round and your dad tries to act cool by calling them ‘dude’ and asking them if they’ve pulled any hot chicks lately.”

Boris Johnson and Emmanuel Macron’s meeting today was to discuss replacing the ‘Irish Backstop’, a first for the EU. Angela Merkel gave Johnson 30 days to come up with an alternative to the backstop, and French President Macron agreed to this today, showing a softening in stances from the two big leaders in the EU. This change came after Johnson declared the UK would leave the EU October 31st, deal or no deal,
From the RT story:
Before their meeting, Macron appeared to taunt Johnson, claiming the pursuit of a no-deal Brexit would result in the UK becoming a ‘vassal’ of Trump’s US. He insisted that the cost of a hard Brexit could not be offset by a trade agreement with the US.
