Last week eight-year-old Mora Gerety was walking across a Boise street with her family when Elvin Ramos-Caballero, a Honduran illegal with a final removal order since 2016, allegedly struck her while impaired by alcohol. Mora died from her injuries. Ramos-Caballero is finally in ICE custody — nine years too late.
He never should have been here.
He never would have stayed here if Boise weren’t run by a mayor who brags about making our city a certified “Welcoming City” for illegal immigrants.

The facts are undeniable:
- In 2019 McLean and the city council officially declared Boise a “Welcoming City” and got certified by the George Soros-linked Welcoming America organization.
- In 2021 she doubled down with another resolution celebrating Boise’s role as “inclusive” to all immigrants — legal status not required.
- Her own 2020 transition report explicitly recommended turning Boise into a sanctuary city that would refuse to cooperate with ICE.
- Even after Idaho’s Republican legislature banned sanctuary cities statewide in 2023, McLean kept the “welcoming” policies in place, limiting local police cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
The Trump administration saw exactly what she was doing and, in May 2025, put Boise on the official sanctuary jurisdiction list for refusing to honor ICE detainers and shielding criminal aliens from deportation.
McLean’s response? Whine that the designation was “unfair” while continuing to spend taxpayer money on programs that help illegal immigrants get jobs, housing, and services — the same week an American child was buried.
This is not bad luck. This is policy.
Every “welcoming” press release, every refusal to work with ICE, every virtue-signal about “diversity” sent a loud message south of the border: Come to Boise. Break our laws. We’ve got your back.
And one of those men took that invitation, got drunk, got behind the wheel, and killed Mora Gerety.
Lauren McLean can hide behind carefully worded statements that never mention the little girl’s name. She can keep pretending her open-borders ideology didn’t have consequences. But the blood is on her hands just as surely as it’s on Biden’s and Harris’s.

Boise used to be a safe city in a red state where kids could play in the streets without looking over their shoulders for impaired drivers with deportation orders. McLean’s “welcoming” policies bought and paid for this new precarious world for many of our most precious.
We are done being polite.
Repeal the Welcoming City resolution.
Mandate full cooperation with ICE.
Defund every dime that goes to helping illegal aliens while American families bury their children.
The Ada County Sheriff has yet to abide by the loosely enforced 287g Executive Order recently put out by Republican Governor Brad Little. This federal program deports illegals detained for other crimes and may have potentially helped prevent this situation and could prevent others for sure.
Sheriff Clifford’s word salad may appease some who don’t understand 287g. But the fact is that signing up for the Memorandum of Agreement 287g task force model is far more efficient than their system, complies with President Trump’s preferred methods, and enables law enforcement to check immigration status on the spot. This is critical and Clifford wants to pull the wool over people’s eyes.

Mora Gerety deserved better.
Boise deserves better.
And Lauren McLean needs to go.
America First. Idaho First. For Mora.

This Mayor and Criminal Sheriff need to be held accountable, perhaps charged as accomplices in this girls murder.
