Members of ‘The Squad’ Take to the Steps of the DNC ‘Demanding’ the Green New Deal

A press conference was held today on the steps of the DNC in Washington DC by progressive activists as part of a campaign to lobby Joe Biden, assuming he takes the office as president, to enact the Green New Deal.

Three members of “The Squad”, a progressive Senator, a progressive Congressman, and three newly elected progressive Congressional representatives were among those who spoke.

Michigan House Rep. Rashida Tlaib said that “This movement is more than one day, it is more than election day.” The Sunrise Movement, which was another progressive group that took part added, “We need a movement that will build lasting change for our generation and for those to come.”

A recent article suggested that a “Biden presidency doesn’t need a Green New Deal to make progress on climate change” and enact a sweeping set of climate-related initiatives many Democrats are pushing for.
