U.S. House Rep Mike Johnson (R-LA) has been re-elected as the House Speaker after two Republicans flip their vote during the first round of voting.
The final tally of votes was 218 to 215 in favor of Johnson, with U.S. House Rep Thomas Massie (R-KY) voting for U.S. House Rep Tom Emmer (R-MN) instead.
Initially, U.S. House Rep Keith Self (R-TX) and U.S. House Rep Ralph Norman (R-SC) had voted for other Republicans.
After a huddle with Johnson, the two elected representatives came to the well and changed their votes to Johnson.
U.S. House Rep Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) received the 215 votes that were cast by Democrats, including one from former Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Pelosi had flown into Washington D.C. for the vote, although she is still in recovery from hip surgery in Germany after a fall in Luxembourg.
Johnson was the endorsed candidate of President Donald Trump, who wished him luck in a Truth Social post earlier today.
