Despite today’s major news of former President Trump being acquitted of a second impeachment attempt, it’s clear that if Donald Trump runs for president again in 2024 it will be the most grassroots presidential campaign in a while.
That’s because after what Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) just said about Trump, Mitch will not be able to take that back, and clearly won’t be working with Donald Trump in the future. This is juxtaposed to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) attempt to stand by Trump even as some call him a fence sitter.
National File reported on this story in part:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who allegedly used the threat of a Senate conviction to blackmail President Donald Trump during his final days in office, seemed to call for a criminal trial against the former President only moments after voting to acquit him.
As you can see in the videos below, McConnell did not mince words at all, and there will likely be no reconciliation this time around.
“There’s no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day. No question about it. The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president.”
Mitch continued: “And having that belief was a foreseeable consequence of a growing crescendo of false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole which the defeated president kept shouting into the loudest megaphone on planet earth.”
After a few more words McConnell went on to quote Rudy Giuliani’s “trial by combat” comments, and attempted to disband theories that Joe Biden stole the 2020 presidential election. Watch below:

It’s unclear what the future holds for the GOP. Clearly the establishment is turning on Trump but much of the nation has not. Time will tell how things shake out in the near and long term. Meanwhile former President Trump issued the statement below not too long ago:
