MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan today complained in a tweet that he’s only able to see replies or mentions from “blue-check MAGA trolls” on Elon Musk’s Twitter.
The tweet from Hasan comes after he received a community note that offered context to a clip that he shared recently in a tweet.
Hasan kvetched, “This site is becoming more unusable by the day. Can’t see replies or mentions from people I follow, or normal folks, as it’s all full of blue-check MAGA trolls.”
“Old Twitter was occasionally toxic but usable. New Twitter is often toxic *and* unusable. Good job Elon (!),” Hasan declared.

Old Twitter was occasionally toxic but usable.
New Twitter is often toxic *and* unusable.
Good job Elon (!)
In the tweet that garnered the community note, Hasan quoted himself from the clip from his show where he was discussing murders committed based on race.
“White people kill other white people at almost the same rate black people kill other black people & yet you never hear anyone complaining about ‘white on white crime’. These aren’t points of sage wisdom from Maher. They are classic racist dog whistles,” Hasan insisted.
In the community note, readers pointed out that “According to the 2019 FBI stats there were 2594 white on white homicides and 2574 black on black homicides. In 2019, white population in the US was 60.1% of total population. Black was 12.2%. Thus the per capita murder rate was much higher in the black on black group.”
Hasan responded in a separate tweet to that and said, “If you had any doubt that @CommunityNotes has become another weapon of the right on Musk’s Twitter, see the BS community note added to my Bill Maher clip, after MAGA folks demanded it. It makes a point that is irrelevant to the one I am making (re intraracial ‘rates* of killing.)”
