MTG and Lauren Boebert Vow to Hold Fauci Accountable After He Says He Plans to Retire By the End of Biden’s Term

In a pair of tweets today, U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Lauren Boebert (R-CO) vowed to hold Anthony Fauci accountable after he said he plans to retire by the end of Joe Biden’s term.

Boebert said in her tweet, “Fauci thinks he’s just going to retire and move on with his life. Not on my watch. He belongs in jail.”

Not long thereafter, Greene tweeted, “Whether Fauci retires or not, he still must be investigated and held responsible for his role in Covid-19.”

Boebert also tweeted right after the report, “Fauci is saying he’ll retire by the end of Biden’s term. If the GOP allows him to keep his job that long, we’ve failed.”

In the report, Fauci claimed that he’s prepared for the onslaught of attacks that could come in a Republican-controlled House or Senate next year.

As POLITICO noted, many are running in the midterms on campaigns deriding the lockdowns, school closures, and masking requirements that Fauci said were necessary pandemic precautions.

Fauci insisted, however, that is not part of his calculus for retirement.

“They’re going to try and come after me, anyway. I mean, probably less so if I’m not in the job. I don’t make that a consideration in my career decision,” Fauci explained.

Fauci will stress the importance of vaccines and boosters if called to testify, but he acknowledged there may never be a definitive moment when the country can claim victory over an evolving virus that has killed more than one million Americans and left thousands with long COVID symptoms.
