MTG and Louie Gohmert Hand-Deliver a Letter to D.C. Mayor Bowser ‘Demanding Answers and an Immediate Tour’ of the D.C. Jail Holding the Jan 6 Prisoners

U.S. House Reps Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) hand-delivered a letter today to Washington D.C.’s Mayor Muriel Bowser.

According to Greene, the two reps are “demanding answers and an immediate tour of the jail to conduct Congressional oversight.”

“The DC Jail is an absolute disgrace,” Greene declared in a tweet where she also shared a video of her being interviewed while delivering the letter.

Greene explained in the interview, “We’ve been denied even a phone call, so that’s why we’re here today at her office to say, you need to give us a visit.”

Gohmert shared some pictures of their visit to Bowser’s office and said in a tweet, “This morning, @RepMTG and I delivered a letter to Mayor Bowser about the horrible treatment of #J6 detainees in the DC Jail.”

In October, we reported that a federal judge ruled that the warden of a D.C. jail and the director of the D.C. Department of Corrections were in contempt of court.

U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth of Washington called at the time for an investigation by the Department of Justice to determine whether the jail has violated the civil rights of the Jan. 6 defendants.

The defendant in the specific case who is being charged with several felonies related to the January 6th riot, Christopher Worrell, is being treated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and had contracted COVID while in custody.

It is unclear whether any steps have been taken by the DOJ to investigate the conditions as there have been no further reports.
